What is anxiety?
Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety conditions frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations.
Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks). These feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time. You may avoid places or situations to prevent these feelings.
Sometimes anxiety results from a medical condition that needs treatment.

Teens and Stress: When it’s more than worry
Anxiety is the body’s or mind’s reaction to stress, even in the absence of current stressors. Physical symptoms associated with stress and anxiety can include headaches, difficulty sleeping, digestive issues, and muscle pain. If these symptoms go untreated, they can harm the body and potentially lead to other mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders. Everyone experiences stress, and at times, it can feel overwhelming. You may be at risk for an anxiety disorder if you find it difficult to manage stress, and if your symptoms:
-
Interfere with your daily life
-
Cause you to avoid certain activities
-
Seem to be ever-present.
