Know Your Rights

Massachusetts has a Good Samaritan Law to help keep people safe during an overdose. This law means that if you call 911 to get medical help for someone who may be overdosing, or if someone calls for help for you, you will not get in trouble for simple drug possession if the only reason police are involved is because you asked for emergency help.

The goal of this law is to make sure people are not afraid to call for help, because calling 911 can save a life. This protection does not apply to serious offenses like drug selling or trafficking, but it does protect people who are trying to help in an emergency.
